Kitchen Table Odds n' Ends

I have never so impatiently welcomed or waited for spring in my life!!! My kitchen table is being used as a storage bench right now. The ground is frozen, and they are calling for snow tonight. The grape vines keep growing each day, lol:). 

Making cookies using Cricket Flour

My cricket flour FINALLY arrived. Will be making chocolate chip cookies with some added cricket flour AND some dog cookies using some added cricket flour. Have heard they add a slightly nutty taste. Packed with protein!!!! YES!!! 

dormant fruit trees planted

Today, we got our dormant blue berry bushes planted, and dormant plum, apple, cherry, and pear trees planted as well. Also planted some strawberry plants, but those are covered with straw:). C'mon SPRING! 

Deep Freeze

So upset... One of our favorite bantam chickens was dead in the coop this morning:(. I know this type of bird isn't particularly cold hardy, but we had a heat lamp in their coop to at least shake off some of the cold. Even with the heat lamp, their water was frozen. All other chickens, ducks, and guineas were fine. We have to assume our beloved hen died because of the cold weather:(. 

Novel submitted

Got my novel submitted to well over 100 literary agents. Fingers and toes crossed hoping I get picked up. Let the waiting game begin!!!

Old and Older friends:).

Was sitting in a restaurant with my hubby the night before Valentines Day, and reconnected with one of my old childhood friends. Hadn't seen her in well over 25 years, and we immediately hit it off and recognized one another. Loving how life just happens sometimes! 

Ice Storm... Brrrr...

Brrrr.... This ice storm has us all hunkering down. Thankfully the power is on right now, but we had to pull out the kerosene heater last night because we lost power for 5 hours. The generator is ready to go in case we need to employ it. 

Prepping for the Winter Weather

As ice and snow flurries storm the east coast, I sit inside where it is warm, and enjoy winter soup and family... 

Thankfully, we prepared for the storm by stocking up on food items, kerosene for the portable heater, gas for the generator, and wrapping faucets, hoses, and lines....

Animal water troughs were filled, heat lamps were activated, and vitamins were distributed. All animals were given extra food and bedding. 

Hoping all people and animals alike are as safe and comfortable as we are. Provided temporary shelter for a "stray" dog today (and food/water) because of the freezing temperatures.... 

Electric Chainsaw

I LOVE my new electric chainsaw. It is in the 5 pound range, so it is easy for me to control. I tried picking up my husband's chainsaw and struggled. Even the small 8 pound gas powered chainsaws were uncomfortable to hold for any period of time. 

At first I insisted that I wanted a gas operated chainsaw until I read the reviews on the electric ones. This small saw is perfect for the small projects I will do around the farm.

REALLY??? In our country, the gov't chooses to TAKE our possessions and money without cause and illegally by trying to find ways around the 4th amendment. You don't have to engage in illegal activity to be impacted. The gov't may simply disagree with your business or beliefs and decide to interfere, or worse, place you on a "watch" list. BE CONCERNED!!! 

Don't forget about Ruby Ridge, Fast and Furious, and Waco. 

Flat Stanley

One of my best friend's daughters mailed me a letter along with a paper doll named Flat Stanley. Her task was to mail Flat Stanley to someone in another state or country to learn about different places and customs. So, I took Flat Stanley along with me to do farm chores the other day. Here's a picture of Flat Stanley helping me check the greenhouse starts:). Flat Stanley traveled all the way to the east coast from Bakersfield, CA. 

Odel Helle knife

Valentines gift from my hubby:). I LOVE this company. The Odel Helle knife is the perfect size for me. Tired of butchering chickens with a dull pocket knife. THIS should make the job much easier.

Wild Daffodils

It is so exciting seeing the first signs of spring. The wild daffodils I dug up out of the woods and replanted are starting to pop up:)!!!

The puppies are doing so well with the sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens (and other dogs). Just love this breed mix (Pyrenees, Kangal, Bouvier).

I hated hearing Izzy Bella whining and crying.... So.... We adopted the litter mate she was closest to:). They are both happy as little clams now!!! Welcome, Twinklebell..... 

Gypsy Vanner

I am so lucky to have met and ridden Shandy Blackfeathers, a beautiful Gypsy Vanner stallion a couple of days ago. He rode in an outdoor arena with a mare and had no issues.... In love!!!

Ms. Izzy Bella is getting used to living without her sibling group. It is so sad listening to her cry at night. I left my tee shirt in with her last night so at least she could have the scent of one of us which seemed to calm her. She is a wonderful dog and is doing so well....
